Re: Do PCOS drugs help with Hirsutism?

"existing growth" means that which you already have... Yes, by taking the drugs it will not get worse, and this is what makes the other treatments more "long term" or "permanent" when done in combination with medication.

Electrolysis is painful (even when it's just a tiny prick, hundreds of them in the same area over a 45 minute or an hour or longer session all add up to some measure of pain and discomfort, and anyway, the overall results are slower than the laser... And it costs the same or more (over time) to get less effective results with Electrolysis than with the laser, from what I know and have seen(I have spent thousands on it, went for years, and I STILL have hair on my neck, chin, jawline, upper lip, sideburns, cheeks.... not to mention the rest of me that was never treated).

I am kind of in the same boat as you... only I have more hair than you, from the way you describe yourself.... It really is a bummer... but once I got used to the fact that this is it, I started looking ahead (and saving money) towards the time when I will be able to start the laser treatments. My hair grows pretty quickly, so I figure I can take a few days off from work before I go to have the laser treatment done (I've been told by the doctor who does it that I would need three treatments spaced over 24 weeks or so, depending on my hair-growth cycles, extent of regrowth, etc.).

This is not convenient, but I think that it will be the best thing I can get at this point... So, << sigh >> what can I do but live with it?

Sorry I wish I had a better answer for you... I wish someone out there had a better answer for both of us and the rest of the group here!

Oh, that's not very encouraging. What do you mean by the "existing growth." Please don't tell me that whatever hair I have now is what I have to deal with forever??? Luckily I don't have a "beard" yet, but have serious growth on my chin and upper lip and sideburns. I also have it on my chest, naval, and inner thighs.

So.. you are saying that by going on drugs it will not get worse, but the hair I have is here to stay? Wow, that is REALLY depressing. I just don't know how I can do this for the rest of my life - I mean fight this battle of hair removal. Electrolysis is out of the question, I can't let it all grow, that would be awful - how would I go to work?

Sorry this is so long, I just find it hard to accept that I am stuck with this amount of growth forever.

Thanks for your reply. Although it is discouraging, it did answer my question.
