Re: Do PCOS drugs help with Hirsutism?From: Avalos (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 10 Apr 2000 14:35:39 -0500
Every doctor that I have spoken to recently and every bit of information that I have garnered says basically the same thing: The medications will slow new growth, and they may even prevent new growth, but there is not a miracle pill out there that will eliminate the existing growth that we have.... Electrolysis can be permanent for some, but it was definitely NOT permanent for me; I have been told that, such being the case, laser treatment for me would be long lasting but not likely permanent, BUT that regrowth would be diminished if I took Spironolactin & Metformin... So, I am taking those medications now, and in a few months plan to to the lightsheer laser treatment. Exasperating thing we have to cope with, isn't it? Some days I could just crawl under the sheets and not come out.... -----Original Message----- From: anonymous@obgyn.net [mailto:anonymous@obgyn.net Sent: Monday, April 10, 2000 3:21 PM To: Multiple recipients of list PCOS Subject: Do PCOS drugs help with Hirsutism? Is anyone having luck reducing their excessive hair through PCOS treatment? I am not overweight so losing weight to control testosterone does not work for me. I have been on BCP for almost TEN years and the hair gets progressively worse as I get older ( I am 30). I am trying to get up the guts to go to a RE and for the first time in my life actually speak of my hirsutism. I am really discouraged by reading this message board though. Why are so many people talking about electrolysis, laser surgery, waxing, etc. Don't the drugs help? I don't think I can live the rest of my life trying to fight this daily battle with hair. Every since I determined that PCOS is my problem I had some faith that once I got on the right meds, the hair would go away - but some of the messages I read really discourage me. I am interested to hear other people's experiences and ways of coping with the hair/acne. Peace
