PCOS Without Cysts on the Ovaries?From: anonymous@obgyn.netWed, 5 Apr 2000 19:39:02 -0500 (CDT)
I have never posted a message before, so bear with me! I am 22 and have been diagnosed with PCOS for a couple of years now, and not until lately have I been able to convince my doctors to help me with it. I have periods maybe once or twice a year, excessive hair growth on my face and body, fatigue, and weight gain, among other things. I was also tested and my insulin levels were high and I was just put on metformin a few weeks ago. Anyway, a few days ago I was sent to a radiologist to look at my ovaries for the first time, and they told me that one of my ovaries was completely clear of cysts and the other one doesn't have very many cysts either. They said that borderline for PCOS is about 20 cysts, and he said that I was right around 20 and couldn't rule out nor confirm that I had PCOS. Has anyone heard of this? Does this mean that I don't have PCOS? Or is it possible to have PCOS but not have numerous cysts on my ovaries? Any information would be helpful. I am grateful for this site and the encouraging words and thoughts I read here. Thank you in advance for any help!
