Re: fasting glucose test w/insulin

My doctor ABSOLUTELY refuses to give me the GTT. WHY?? She is telling me that because my fasting glucose & insulin were "in the normal range" that there is NO reason to perform a GTT. I've even mentioned that I've done some of my own research & spoken to others and that the general understanding is the the GTT is needed to detect IR. Is there some hidden secret that I'm missing about this test. However, here's the kicker....she is MORE than willing to prescribe "weight loss" drugs...such as Xenical (sp?) and Meridia!! Has anyone here ever tried any of those? I'm not sure now if it's time to find a new doc, or if I should give the latter a try....any thoughts? Thanks!
