Hi. My name is Alexandra. I just found out about PCOS from Woman's Day. Here's my story. I'm 44, and on 3/9 had a total adominal hysterectomy. Cervix, Ovaries, Uterus the works. I have had 11 misscarriages, 4 live births. I was high risk on all of them. Incompetent cervix/pre-term labor. Life long, horrible history of enometriousis, cysts etc... I was thin most of my life, until my 3 child. I have been 210, then 160. then 230, then 170, now I'm back up to 250 and climbing. I have 4 children. Ari-19, who is thin, has regular periods, but was diagnosed w/hypothyroid 4 years ago, which apparently went away. She also had renal failure, and that too got better. Brianna-11 1/2 is now morbidly obese. B'tween 1st and 2nd grade she ballooned really rapidly. She has painful periods and facial hair. Andrew-9 1/2 normal Emily-6 normal. I'm adopted. So, my medical history is unknown to me. I've always lost well on Atkin's (horribly on low fat), got 11 people to lose/and maintain weight...and are doing well on maintenance. If I ever got off of the induction diet, the weight came right back..instantly. Zero carbs is impossible to live with. Even the salad did me in. Here's my questions: 1: Could I have acquired PCOS? Do I have it now? 2: Can you still have it after a hysterectomy? 3: Could my daughter have it now? My ob/gyn and primary care dr's are impossible. My blood work came back normal. They told me to go on a low fat diet and exercise. I live in San Jose. Is there a doctor here who understands PCOS? I would appreciate any comments/feedback. Thank you.
