I've recommended him before, I'll recommend him again - I saw a Dr. Andrew Lowy at the St Vincent's Endocrinology clinic in Sydney. He has since moved on to Concorde as part of his rotation. While not perfectly informed (he called Met a 'radical' treatment option) he is certainly willing to listen, and glad to prescribe metformin if you ask. He is VERY kind, and understanding, really listening to you. He also has no trouble with weight issues - although seeing as it is an endocrine clinic there were a LOT of VERY big people there, he must see it a lot and try to help. I would thoroughly suggest you find him, or just go to the St Vincent's clinic (run every Thursday afternoon) because both were full of respect and helpful. I don't know if you are anywhere near Sydney... but I am up in Armidale, I drove 8 hours each way to see him and it was entirely worth it.
