Re: Two Met questions - bcp's and side effects. Thanks!From: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 31 Mar 2000 09:53:20 -0600 (CST)
Usually the side effects of met are diminished by the second week. You should not be having this problem at the end on the second month. Just to be on the safe side, you may want to cut back on the met and start going up more gradually, I assume that you were fine on 1000mg / day. Go back to that and add only 1/2 to 1/4 a pill until you get up to 1500. Remember that many drs are suggesting that 1500 is the minimum theraputic dosage so the fact that you have not had a period yet is not surprising. You are losing the benefits of the drug with your illness. There have been some "bugs" going around that seem to last forever. One of them does include nausea and diarrhea. I do not know if this is your problem or not but if you were fine on 1000mg before you will be fine again. You can be on the pill and met at the same time. If you have a bug, the pill will not help you feel better and you need to remember that you may have to take it for three months before you see improvement. Your dr may want to see what the met does for you alone so that he can tell if he wants to recommend it for his other patients. Just out of curiosity, you could not be pregnant could you?
