Re: Not sure what course of action to take for PCOS (long posting)From: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Mar 2000 10:08:14 -0600 (CST)
You had a dr who prescribed met two years ago? Wow that is great! He was obviously informed about the study results that started 18 years ago. Met has been used for over 40 years and unless you have kidney disease, it is considered to be safe. It may help prevent you from developing diabetes, heart disease and cancer. The second endo you went to did nothing to help you. You seem concerned that neither wanted to see your test results. With facial hair, weight gain, history of irregular periods and a previous diagnosis of PCOS, I would not consider it necessary to look at old tests that would take a long time to get to their office that you would have to sign a release form for, that would then have to be sent to your previous dr at their time and expense that would then probably be "sanitized" by your dr, etc, etc, etc. The endos had all of the information that they needed with you there. It can take several months before you notice a change in your body while you are on met. It took a long time for it to get in the condition that it was in, it will take a little while for it to reverse. You need to find a low-carb diet that you are willing to stick with. You need to go back to an endo (preferably the first one). You still have facial hair, irregular periods and weight gain I presume and you still have a previous diagnosis. You will be fine without other tests.
-- Hope this helps,
