Re: What is the Down Side of use Bleach for Facial Hair (ie Upper Lip)From: Jan (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 28 Mar 2000 12:53:16 -0600 (CST)
I bleached from age 14 to about age 23. The amount and thickness of the hair grew progressivly worse over the years. At age 23, a heavy blond moustache was not any more attractive than a dark one. Also, after so many years of bleaching, my upper lip became chrnically irritated, it stayed red. So a blond moustache on red skin was quite noticable! At that point I quit bleaching and switched to electrolysis. The irritation went away for a while, but eventually electrolyis started causing the same chronic red lip. After years of electrolysis, I realized it was not working either. Now, I understand that was because my elevated androgens kept making more hair grow. If I had known back then what would happen, I would have started an anti-androgen, like aldoctone, to stop the progression. I'm starting aldactone next week. When I'm sure the new growth is under control, I'm going to look into laser treatment. This is only my personal experience, and your mileage may vary. If you can control new growth, you may be able to bleach indefinately without trouble. Make sure you use the milder bleach preparations for the face. The preparations for the body cause worse irritation on my face. Good luck! Jan
