Re: Dosage for Glucophage? Q for Belle or anyone elseFrom: Belle (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 28 Mar 2000 00:17:35 -0600 (CST)
Since this drug has not been approved for PCOS yet, the are no dosing guidelines. For Type II diabetics, the usual dosage is to start at two 500mg twice a day then increasing to a max of 2550. Some drs are saying that 1500 is the theraputic level. My dau is taking 1500 and her insulin resistance was very mild. For the lab where her results were charted, the normal limits were <30 for insulin. Dear Dau had a 44 at the first hour and a 40 at the second hour of the glucose tolerance test. I would probably ask about taking 1500/day but to my knowledge, there is no real study about the dosage amounts on non-diabetic individuals. I can tell you that the studies for the use of metformin in anovulatory women used 1500 to 2550 mg to get the results of 91% of the women ovulating. http://blues.fd1.uc.edu/~gartsips/polycyst.htm
