Melodee-

I am certain about a gazillion other women here will tell you this, but it is very important to get the proper treatment for PCOS! First of all, it will be helpful to you when you are trying to conceive. Secondly the correct treatment will simply help you feel better, have more energy, and lose some of those annoying symptoms like facial hair, or acne, or whatever. Third and most important, left untreated PCOS leads to much higher risk of some very serious diseases like diabetes and heart problems! Also, the correct treatment for PCOS isn't simply excercise and diet, although these two things are very beneficial. As I understand it, the most effective treatment we have available to us is an insulin sensitizing drug called Metformin, usually given to Type II Diabetics, in dosages of 1500mg/day or greater. It sounds like your nurse practitioner doesn't know about the links between PCOS and insulin problems. I would say either you need to be able to discuss this with her (maybe by bringing in some articles - http://www.pcosupport.com has a link to some) or you need to change your medical practitioner! Either way, definitely do make sure you do the best thing for your health and your body and get the right treatment!! Good health and best of luck :)
