Re: QUESTIONS ON PCOSFrom: Anon (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 26 Mar 2000 08:47:34 -0600 (CST)
Are you on any medications? Some ladies report that some of the meds we use for PCOS will spontaneously start their periods back up. Logic says that PCOS is probably inherited. You probably "got" it from one of your parents. At the very least, your brother is probably a carrier. Many people think that the males who are carriers of PCOS show the symptoms of Syndrome X, but this has NOT been proven as yet so far as I know. Syndrome X has a long list of symptoms, too. One of which is pre-mature balding. One other thought to mention is that PCOS affects 6-10% of the female population -- That translates to "UP TO one in every ten." I do not mean to stir up any trouble, but the possibility exists that your sister-in-law could also have PCOS. With all of the missed diagnoses, I believe that the upper limit of that statistic is probably closer to the truth. This PCOS is not as uncommon as we individually perceive it to be. YOU did not pass the PCOS on to your niece. It is most probably in your ancestral lineage. There is enough to worry about with PCOS... Please don't take on guilt for something for which you are not responsible. Just offer your support and advice since you understand.
