Hi, I am wondering if the type of hairloss I have could be related to PCOS?From: M.M.ChiChi (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 24 Mar 2000 02:31:52 -0600 (CST)
Over the past three years I have noticed real thinning in my temples, even recession. No other hair loss. Also, increase of fine facial body hair, esp. on upperlip, cheeks, under chin. But it's very pale and short, just more of it. Could this be PCOS? My thyroid is in excellent condition, and I do have one child, but before him I had a miscarrage for unknown reasons at 8 weeks. I also had two years of totally monogamous unprotected sex without getting pregnant. I suffer from heavy periods. While pregnant, nothing was noted about my ovaries on the 32 week ultrasounds. Does this negate any possibiliy of PCOS? I am not overweight, but do gain around my tummy the most. Are there any other hormonal conditions, similar to PCOS, that might cause like a male-pattern baldness? Thanks, I am really hoping to find something to ask my doctor about before she sends me to a bunch of specialists. Can an endocrinologist diagnose this (I have an appt. coming up), and if so what tests will determine PCOS?
