I think I have PCOS, what is my next step?

I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries 9 years ago at age 18. The only treatment I have every received was birth control to give me regular periods (though that didn't always work either). I had minimal difficulty getting pregnant (my family is very fertile, but it took me over 6 mos to get pregnant) and have suffered through one miscarriage (I got pregnant on the pill). I have also been moderately overweight since puberty and could never lose the weight. Finally, everyone in my family seems to die of one cancer or another, so when I read the article in 03/07/00's Womans Day, I panicked. I guess I'm looking for reassurance that I'm right to be concerned.

My regular dr is aware of my cystic ovaries (I recently had a pelvic u/s that showed a cyst had recently burst, and had several other cysts still on my left ovary). I've been dealing with pain in the region of my left ovary for nearly 3 mos now that has gone relatively undiagnosed. First, my dr was concerned it was an etopic pregnancy (possibly the pregnancy I had miscarried 6 mos before) or an ovarian cyst. But apparently the u/s ruled that out. Secondly, the dr decided it must be diverticulosis, but increasing my fiber intake has shown no improvement in the pain. Is there any other test that would show whether my ovary was diseased in some way, pcos or not?

I need to know what I should do now. Should I go to my regular dr again or should I find a gynecologist (the problem is compounded by the fact that I am moving in 4 wks so my care will most likely be interrupted and transferred to someone new), but I'm not sure I can wait until I have moved to see a dr again to alay my fears.

Help!!!
