Re: FAINTING AND DIZZINESS -PCOSFrom: adipose (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 22 Mar 2000 14:18:06 -0600 (CST)
In regards to the questions posted about dizziness and fainting being a symptom of PCOS, yes, I believe it is because I experienced dizzy spells and fainting when I was first diagnosed 22 years ago. I had symptoms since 2nd grade when my mother used to use a scrub brush on the back of my neck because she thought it looked dirty (skin tags). One year after my daughter was born, I started to have severe dizzy spells, accompanied by hot flashes, weakness, no menses and pain in my sides. I gained weight rapidly. I went from 125 lbs to 160 within 2 months. My weight hasn't stopped since. I had menses problems starting at puberty on. I suffered my first painful ovarian cyst when I was only 8 yrs old. I have been through everything with this syndrome: BCPs, fertility experts, clomid, wedge resection, hysterectomy, diabetes. Also, remember that ultrasound is very difficult to read sometimes. They can miss alot on them. I know because my husband is an MRI specialist, and he was the CT specialist for GE for years. He told me that ultrasound is NOT the best tech for looking for cysts. The med profession uses it because it is a cheaper procedure than CT, which is what they should be using on PCOS ovaries. But the insurance companies may not cover it for PCOS. Be PCOS educated and be insistant!!!! I fell through the cracks for so many years with doctors, please don't let that happen to you or your loved ones.
-- Yes, Gail, I can relate to what you said since I have experienced the same things. I know the percentage of ladies on this board are concerned with fertility questions, but we ladies that are post-menopausal and still suffer from PCOS are important too. Hang in there, you are not alone!!! Maybe in the near future, we can all work together to find answers and spread the word to our daughters and grandaughters. Keep looking for the light.
