While I see little reason for her to have a hysterectomy at this age, I do not know her history or her symptoms. Her dr has far more information at his fingertips. He can see her and determine how he thinks she will do in post-op based on his experience. Why did the dr do an ultrasound? Is your mom in some pain? PCOS is certainly showing characteristics of being genetic based on preliminary research findings so with you having PCOS, it does not surprise me that your mom is showing cysts. PCOS victims also have a higher than normal incedence of endometrial cancer. Is your mom confident with the abilities and diagnoses of this dr? Personally, I would like to have a 2nd diagnosis on all major surgery but you say that it is scheduled for tomorrow. You may be cutting it a little close for 2nd opinions. Basically, in my mind, this is a toss up because the dr seems to be afraid of cancer which we know is a risk verses a possibly unnecessary operation. Hysterectomies do not cure PCOS (if this is the problem). Sorry I cannot be more helpful in your situation.
