Am I lucky

After finding and reading this forus, I can't believe how lucky I am. My dr. told me I had PCOS. I wrote down all my symptoms even if I thought they had nothing to do with each other. My skin tabs, dark patches, hair coming from weird places and growing weird lengths, the unreliable periods, the weight I couldn't get off, depression although I've a great life and the way my hair seemed to be thinning. Sure enough, after some tests, I had my diagnosis. We did an ultra sound and my cysts aren't worth removing but I was found to be insulin resistant.

I've been on glucophage for 3 weeks now. 1500 mg. Diarreha occasionally and a low carb 1500 calories a day diet. The med has really helped control the appetite and I've lost 6.5 pounds in three weeks. Sometimes I want to scream and eat something sinful, but when I did the other day I got very ill and so won't do that again (for a while). I've checked a bunch of books out of the library and am trying new low-carb recipes.

My doctor gave me great pamphlets and much needed support. Now through this website, my husband is gathering that this is a disease and how he can help and not sabotage my efforts.

I have a 7 year old daughter, our miracle baby we called her, not knowing until now how true that was!

I'd have to say what helped me (besides the informed medical staff) is that I kept a diary of what was bothering me for about 2 months. It really helped my dr. know what was going on. Best of luck to all on this list.
