PCOS and dieting?

I was diagnosed with PCOS about 1 1/2 years ago. I've been trying to get pregnant for 4 years. To make a long story short, I was put on metformin and it made me very sick!! I stopped taking this and am trying to get my weight and insulin levels downs on my own. Does anyone have any suggestions or success stories that might help me? Would any diet (weight watchers) work or do I need a special one like a low carb diet/
