aldalactone/BCP vs. MetforminFrom: jeanine (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 16 Mar 2000 17:41:20 -0600 (CST)
Under what circumstances would a doctor prescribe Aldalactone and birth control pills over Metformin (and vice-versa) in the treatment of PCOS? I keep hearing that Metformin is the best treatment for PCOS, yet my doctor told me he wouldn't prescribe it because I'm not overweight and therefore, probably not insulin resistant. Can one have PCOS and not have problems with their insulin? From my reading I've been under the impression that PCOS symptoms were caused by your body having trouble regulating insulin. Can anyone help explain this? I'm wondering if I should push the issue with my doctor and insist on a GTT. Any advice?
