Hi Barbara,
I am new to this forum but I have been on another forum for a while now.
Best thing I did was go to the PCOSA site and they have a question list
that you can take to the doc with you.
PCOS as I understand starts out pre-puberty but sometimes does not rear
it ugly head until after puberty or even way later in life. If I would
have known about this when I was first starting my cycles, We would have
gotten treatment sooner (I am now 29). Most likely the doc is going to
check her thyroid first, then they will take some hormonal tests on her
also ask for a glucose tolerance test and an isulin test. ALOT of the
patients have insulin resistance (I do not have that, Also they may give
her a sonogram or ultrasound? I did not have that for they knew just by
looking at me. You may want to have her mother start her low/carbing.
That has helped tremendously in alot of us PCOS'ers in another forum.
Mostly I can not stress enough!! EDUCATE YOURSELF AND YOUR DAUGHTER. I
went to every website about pcos, printed it highlighted everything
that, I thought it was me, they were talking about and I took it to my
doc (an ob/gyn). Most of the women I talk to though go to an
Reproductive Endocrinologist. Since she is so young you may want to try
the ob/gyn or an endo. There are so many good informative sites on the
net. Get yourself a highlighter and get to doing some research, that is
what I did. I wish the best of luck for you, your daughter and most of
all your little wee one. I would not wish this upon anybody especially
a little one, But what an eye you have finding this so soon.
Good Luck and GOD BLESS,
TracyP
