Metformin not working anymore!

I will try to make this short! I have been on Metformin and spironlactone for 2 yrs. I have lost 140 lbs since treatment began. In the last few months I have started craving sweets and losing alot of hair. I have gained back 20 lbs. Within the past few weeks have been experiencing hypoglycemic symptoms (sweats, dizziness, headaches etc.) I went to my PCP (primary care phyisician)and had blood tests done and my glucose level came back low. My PCP has advised to stop taking the Metformin. I am wondering if this is the best thing to do, or do these problems sound like the PCOS is getting worse. I stopped having periods again in March even though I have been taking the medication regularly. Should I go back to my OBGYN before making any changes to my current medications? Any suggestions or comments would be greatly appreciated.
