PCOS Excess Hair TreatmentFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 25 Sep 2003 06:24:44 -0500 (CDT)
I am a PCOS sufferer from the UK. I have had PCOS for about 10 year, but have only been recently diagnosed with it. I am 24, so as yet am not looking at starting a family, so was not looking for a treatment that would solve the fertility issue. My symptoms where a large amount of facial hair, no ability to lose weight and tiredness. My consultant has put me on a drug in the UK called Finnastride, which is actually used to treat prostate cancer in men, but ultimately is a male hormone blocker. I can not believe the results, within two month, my facial hair has reduced so much that I no longer need to remove it every 5 days, or feel embarassed when I am out. When I had blood tests taken I was tested for all levels of ALL male hormones, not just testerone, since my testosterone level is within the normal range. So this is something definately work asking about. There is only one draw back, that I am not allowed to get pregnant with this tablet, as if i did it would lead to a termination. But I can truely say that I feel so much better on this medication, and so many people have said how well I look. I hope this helps someone else out there.
