I was diagnosed with PCOS and my endocrinogolist put me on metformin (2000mg a day) in March 2003. I am also on Diovan for my high BP. I am insulin resistant. I have had diarrhea, headache, dizziness and very acidy stomach since then. I called my DR and the nurse told me to lower the dose of the metformin for a few days, then try to increase it after a week or so. I did, but the diarrhea and other symptoms kept coming back. Glocophage (1700mg daily) was then prescribed to replace the Metormin - Glucophange is the brand name drug of Metformin and it was thought I might tolerate it better. At first the symptoms improved. but then increased to include vomiting. The nurse at the DR office told me to go off the Glucophage for a few days, and suggested the symptoms could be from the Diovan. I went off the Glucophage, and the diarrhea went away in 2 days, but then I expericenced Hypoglycemia events (my blood sugar readings being 50 and 70. I saw my primary care provider with my problems (my Endo DR was away for a week). He said my symptoms were not from the Diovan. He has ordered a roung of tests- fasting glucose tolerance, C-Peptide blood test, and a 24 hour urine test. He said Glucophage/Metformin does not lower your sugar levels. He said I was not Diabetic. How can I be Insulin resistant and have Hypoglycemia events being of drugs that don't cause it? Do you have any idea what's happening to me? Please help.
