Re: PCOS - Where to get MetforminFrom: Hanna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 17 Sep 2003 08:23:30 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I have been diagnosed with PCOS 12 years ago, and was treated with Dianette+ Androcur for 4 years succesfully until I developed high blood pressure and the medication was withdrawn. I managed to lose weight thru extreme excercise and diet programme but told my GP that since the weight gain will occur as soon as I have a lapse in my regime I would need metformin in order to be able to manage my weight and blood pressure. She did not want to take the responsability of prescribing it but sent me to a diabeted specialist who told that I would need to be tested for insulin resistance in order to get the medication. As I was close to my ideal weight he said that I would probably not show any signs in the tests, and he was right. This happened two years ago and since then I have put on two stones and got my blood pressure high again. My GP wants to prescribe some appetite controlling medication which might not help because I am not fat due of my appetite but because of PCOS. So anyone living in North West knowing a gynegologist who would understand this condition and would consider prescribing metformin pls post details asap!!! Thank you in advance, Hanna
