Re: Glucophage-not insulin resistantFrom: Rita (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 6 Sep 2003 09:43:28 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Melissa, I am not insulin resistant either. I began taking Metformin(Generic Glucophage)in March. I also rarely had a period, without Birth control pills or Provera.Within three weeks, my lab tests for Testosterone, DHEAS came back within normal range, and I had a period. I have had regular periods ever since, This is all because of the Metformin alone. I feel so much better. I am also taking Spironolactone for the hair growth/loss. I started taking that in May. I have noticed less hair loss. The hair growth has not slowed down. I am thinking of using Vaniqua, for the facial hair growth. I have not really had problems with the acne. I do notice that my skin looks better, clearer. The Metformin does not effect your glucose levels if you are within normal range. I have a strong family history of Diabetes type II. My Endocrinologist says that medication will help prevent or delay the onset of Diabetes type II. You can take this medication long term, as long as you get regular lab work done. I get lab work done every three months. Take care and e-mail me with any more questions: Ritawls03112002@yahoo.com Rita
