Rose-- my first thought with lower back pain and your back being sensitive to the touch is your kidneys. The kidneys are exceptionally important when taking met; you excrete the byproducts of the drug through them. That's why if you have kidney issues or are older (I think the cut-off is in the 80 yr range), you shouldn't take the stuff. Watch how much water you're taking in--I would cut out all soda and coffee, etc., and just drink water for several days. See if it gets better. Also, if you're on any sort of low-carb diet, you might want to cut back for a while; Atkins and other low-carb plans are exceptionally hard on the kidneys as well. I am not permitted to do any low-carbing b/c I've had a kidney stone and my RE doesn't want to strain my kidneys again. And once you've had a kidney stone, TRUST ME, you NEVER want to have one again. It was literally worse than the labour to have our son! If you get to the point where you can't get comfortable except to be on all fours on the floor, get yourself to the ER; that's a very when there's a stone involved.

And of course, if this concerns you greatly, talk to your dr.--we are after all (with the exception of Dr. Sam), just a bunch of amateurs. ; )
