Rose, If the lower back pain and sore skin symptoms continue, you should check with your doctor, don't recall these as possible side affects for Met. In addition to watching your sweets, be sure to watch fatty foods and dairy--both are OK to eat but at first, they increased my diarrhea.

As for losing weight, many people have had success on low carb dieting but it is not the only way to lose weight. I could not tolerate the diet as it made me very ill. I cut calories and fat and cut out bread, pasta, sweets and cut back on starches (potatos and rice). I do on occasion have bread but choose whole wheat over white. Myself, I have found that with Met I no longer have severe cravings for the bad carbs. I take 2000 mg per day (2/100mg tablets). I have lost 56 lbs. this year (since end of December 2002) following this diet. My cholesterol is normal, my insulin and testoserone numbers have greatly improved, acne is almost gone, periods are every 35 days and facial hair has gotten better (still not as good as I would like but I think that will improve in time).

Good Luck!
