Re: Washing FrequencyFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 2 Sep 2003 09:44:20 -0500 (CDT)
1)I did not lose more hair when losing weight...perhaps this could happen if you are not getting enough nutrients in your diet. 2 & 3) I shampoo every day (if I don't my hair gets very greasy) I always use conditioner. 4) I had always used Pantene but have recently starting using Dove--Love it. 5) You should be able to wash as needed, some people have oily hair and need to wash daily some people do not...I wouldn't wash more than is necessary. 6) Wearing hats or wearing your hair up shouldn't cause hair loss (unless you are pulling your hair tight or yanking at the hat causing the hair to weaken). I would say that it is not something that you are doing that is causing your hair loss, it is probably your hormones and hopefully once the medication starts getting your hormones in check then your hair will start improving. Be sure to take any additional vitamins that your doctor might suggest (or ask if vitamins will help). Sometimes the medications will deplete certain vitamins and this can have a bad effect on your skin and hair) My hair care advice would be to wash your hair as needed using a conditioner to soften the hair and help with tangles so that you are not pulling when brushing. Use a soft brush and be gentle when brushing. Avoid hair dryers and extreme heat and avoid harsh chemicals; perms, dye and sprays. Wear hats and bandana's if that makes you more comfortable just dont tie it too tight and cause stress to your hair. Most important is don't get so down on yourself. You are only 21 and you have a full life ahead of you. This condition is treatable and these side affects can be fixed. Give it time... Take Care
