Re: Initiating MetforminFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 28 Aug 2003 17:47:05 -0500 (CDT)
I started this string of messages w/ "initiating metformin" and I'm sorry to hear of how you wound up on the medication. I am writing to urge you to exercise, however little or much as you want, because regular exercise will make you more sensitive to insulin and will make your diabetes improve, but it must be regular exercise and it must be several months before you'll see consistent change in your blood sugar due to the exercise. Just check w/ your MD about timing of taking your medication and exercise. W/insulin dependent diabetics if they take insulin right before exercising it's a double dose of wiping their system out of glucose and it can trigger a hypoglycemic event. I say all of this as a licensed physical therapist, exercise really can help, I've seen it work many times. Good luck, stay well.
