Re: PCOS< Insulin Resistance and Weight Management

Hey, I am not IR. I've been on 200mg of Glucophage for 5 years. My doctor said it would help the PCOS and would hopefully keep me from becoming IR later in life. The side effects were bad at first... but a few months into it, they went away. Now, the only effects I have are if I miss a few days and then take it, or if I don't eat enough in a day. I think the term "obese" is not quite right for many women. When a doctor says you are obese, it is scary and painful. It makes you feel terrible even if you really don't look that bad. The BMI chart never seems to take into account muscle mass. If you are really wonering were your weight is, and where it should be, I would suggest doing what I did. I went to the local YMCA and had a body fat test. And I measure my waist and hips and bust once per month. I get my body fat tested every 4 months. I am very musclar. When I was very thin (size 10) I weighed 178 at 5'6". I have gained weight since then, and have just lost 20 lbs, but I really only weigh myself to check it once in a while. I am more concerned with inches and body fat any day! At size 10, I would not have considered myself to be obese... but the charts would have! Good Luck with it all.
