You don't HAVE to gain weight when taking Actos or Avandia! It's not a guarantee at all. I took it and never gained weight, but I didn't have the easy time losing it that I did when I was on met. I had to work harder to lose the weight, but it did stay off and Actos controlled my symptoms pretty well. Exercise (doesn't have to be high-impact; you can walk or do Pilates--just get your heart rate up!), eat conscientiously (whatever suits you; I can't low-carb, but I do focus on foods that are low on the glycemic index), and take your meds. I think you'll do well....also, don't expect the worst! Our minds play a huge part in how we feel and react to medication. So be positive, not negative, and except the best! : ) HTH
