Amy, Get the book "taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni Weschler. You can order it at Amazon. I found mine at Hastings books. It will teach you everything that you need to know about when you ovulate (fertile cervical mucous, temperature changes). I don't buy the opk's anymore. This is so much better and I can tell when I am going to ovulate by my body's signs. It doesn't matter if I Ovulate on cycle day 14 or cycle day 38, I always know when it is coming. You have to buy that book. Good luck to you.

I would like to begin to try to conceive in October. My doctor has just put me on Metformin with the hopes that it will allow me to ovulate. She also recommended using an ovulation predictor kit. If I get a period that could be an indication that I am ovulating, but it is possible to menstrate without ovulating, so I'm told. The kit only comes with 6 tester strips, so I want to use them somewhat sparingly. I tested 14 days after my last "period" when I was finishing up my last pack of birth control pills. Of course I have stopped taking them now. The test today said I was not ovulating. I'm not sure if I missed it already or if my cycles are really long and it hasn't happened yet. I would prefer not to test everyday, as that would get really expensive! Does anyone have any ideas about how I can go about this without spending hundreds of dollars for ovulation predictor kits. I think after I get some baseline reading, the subsequent months will be easier to monitor, but I am just having trouble getting started.

Thanks,

Amy
