Re: Metformin side effectsFrom: Dana (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 30 Jul 2003 01:16:41 -0700 (PDT)
Pamela I have been on glucophage for 4 years. Now living in nevada they put me on the generic <met> I was so sick from it, I had to cut my dosage back from 1500mg to 500 and now am suffering with panic attacks worse than ever. My new dr wants me to be treated for depression also. I think it's the met. I was so sick and had blood sugar dropped into single digits where I was barely able to focus. It has been a wild ride..that is for sure. I never lost any weight and I am truly at a loss. Dana Pamela <anonymous@obgyn.net> wrote: Can anyone help me? I was diagnosed with PCOS about 12 weeks ago. My doctor put me on Metformin and over that first 6 week period I lost 17 lbs without changing anything. I exercise regularly and I'm a vegetarian. My problem is that I feel awful!!! I felt good prior to taking the Met. I was just having a great deal of trouble trying to lose weight. After the initial 6 week period, my dosage was upped from 500mg dose twice a day to 1000 mg dose twice a day. I have been losing weight but I've been week, nauseous, vomiting, dehydrated, no appetite at all, and having severe panic attacks (to the point where I've been put on Xanax to treat the anxiety). At first I didn't associate the sickness with the Metformin until I ran out of my prescription. After 4 days off of the Metformin, I felt normal again. Has anybody had this experience. I really need to lose the weight but it doesn't seem worth the HORRIBLE way I've been feeling. Help! Pamela Yahoo! SiteBuilder - Free, easy-to-use web site design software
