new to PCOSFrom: Patti (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 23 Jul 2003 18:57:10 -0500 (CDT)
Hi there. I've never done this before, so please bear with me. I have been reading your postings, and I feel like there's so much that my doctor hasn't told me! I've been overweight for 22 years (I'm 36), and I've have had acne since I was 10. I was recently diagnosed with PCOS when they found enlarged ovaries. My hair started falling out two years ago in grad school - I thought it was just stress - and now these tag moles are appearing out of the blue! I find it amazing that I've probably had this all my life, and I'm just finding out about it. Luckily, when I was younger I wasn't ready for children. Now I'm married and my husband can't have children... So it looks like kids were never in the picture for me. Now nearing forty, I'm worried about my future health and - yeah, I'll say it - my looks. The only treatment my doctor offered was bcp. I'm worried about my weight and you'd think he'd be too. I'm 5'1 and 188. I've been exercising for the past 4 months, weights and eliptical machine 3-4 days a week (now 5) and nothing. He's got me Demulen. Should I ask him about Yasmin? What is Metaformin? Is it for diabetics? My last fasting glucose test was just fine. What can we do about thses ugly tag moles? If I have them remeoved, will they just come back? Lastly, if a low carb diet helps us with PCOS, can we still eat fruits and veggies. I tried Atkins and felt good, but I didn't lose weight, and I really needed more fiber. Thanks so much for your help.
