How worried should I be? Diabetes (longish)

Hi all!

It's been a while since I've been here, but I'm getting a little paranoid about diabetes, and I was wondering whether any of you well-informed women (and men) had any insights.

I was diagnosed with PCOS in August of 2001 and have been on Metformin ever since. I have no idea what my blood sugar levels are, though the last time I was tested, I was told that they were within normal. I do have the hair loss and the weight gain, but I've been able so far to escape the skin problems and the excess hair growth to a large extent.

I am overweight and don't get as much exercise as I would like to (my excuse du jour is that I was laid off in April and am starting up my own business...). I try to eat right, but I know that this is a problem area for me, and I try to exercise, but ditto. I am otherwise reasonably healthy.

How scared should I be about getting diabetes?

I do take my medication fairly religiously (500 mg 2x/day) and am also on Yasmin for the PCOS and the endometriosis (it's been a long, hard struggle finding the right medication to treat both :-( ).

How worried should I be?

Thanks!
