PCOS, Wellbutrin, and Diet - New to the boardFrom: Stella (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 19 Jul 2003 19:06:13 -0500 (CDT)
Thanks for making the board accessible. I have spent the past 3 hours reading posts. It's been great. I'm 35, and had been suspecting PCOS for a few years: *a fair skinned blond, with BLACK hair on face and neck (except mustache), abdomen, nipples, and lower back *apple-shaped body *ovarian polyps *periods every 4 - 9 mos. but docs kept saying I was within normal hormonal and endocrine limits. I was "hairy" because... my "hair follicles are just sensitive to regular testosterone." NOT! Finally, I have met a doctor who specializes in PCOS, from a dietary angle - and we are trying different diets within 2 week time frames, and testing glucose at the end of each diet. Should be very helpful. The current diet plan is low-carb, and each snack is given with sunflowers/pecans/ or almonds, to bind it to the carb (I think), in hopes to find a combination to lower the insulin resistance. The final results, though specific to me, may help others as well. Three months from now I will know what has worked best. Anyway, interesting note, Wellbutrin causes me to have a monthly menses! It also gave me great energy, but I took it twice a day, once at 8AM and the second dose by 2PM - because taken after 2PM my sleep was interupted. Also, anyone taking it is advised to drink ALOT of water...less than 3 liters a day and you will be constipated, excessively dry skin, cotton mouth, and confused state due to dehydration. It may have also led me to get kidney stones - personal thought. Thanks for the info!
