I'm not insulin resistant either, according to my fasting glucose levels, but apparently you don't have to be to be prescribed. Also, my doctor suggested that the standard tests for insulin insensitivity often turn out normal even when you do have it. So even though my glucose and insulin levels tested normal, there's still a chance I *am* IR. I went in for problems with infertility too, but I am *not* going any further than taking Metformin unless we can establish that there is another unrelated problem. If your main problem is irregular periods, the FIRST thing to do is get another doctor, or at the very least a second opinion from one who knows more about PCOS and metformin. Otherwise you'll end up spending thousands of dollars getting pregnant and still have a 50% chance of miscarrying, on top of the fact that your PCOS will remain untreated. Your best bet at health and pregnancy (barring any other issues) is to treat the PCOS first.
