Ovulation and conception are no races, your dr is absolutely right. Let's take into account that the chance of conceiving in one single cycle is about 15% in healthy people. But if you haven't ovulated before, to start your ovulatory cycle needs more than one month. So everybody is wrong, who increases the dosage of any drug intended to induce ovulation (clomid one of them). But if you are PCOSer, insulin sensitizers should be taken first, then in combination with clomid. For your info
