Hi Missy,
PCOS is a clinical diagnosis, which can be substantiated by lab tests. But there is no lab test to diagnose PCOS. Insulin resistance is part (or the endocrine basis) of PCOS, therefore it hays to be treated by insulin sensitizers. However I am not aware of any test to confirm IR, except the concomittant measurment of insulin and glucose during an oral glucose loading test.
