Glucophage XR and long periods - please help!

I am going on three weeks now of having a period and I am beginning to worry. I called the gyno and her solution was to put me back on birth control pills. I don't want to go back on the pill, I developed high blood pressure (was on medication, but was able to go off once I stopped taking the pill) and migraines. I have been off of the pill since January and on glucophage for about 2 months now.

I just need to hear from someone that long periods can happen while adjusting to Glucophage. And that it is okay to have long periods without having to go off the glucophage - it is helping in other ways - losing weight and getting some energy back. I am currently at a 1000 mg and working my way up to 2000, could that be causing the long period?

Any input and experience is greatly appreciated!
