After getting married and trying to conceive 9with no luck) I too was put on Clomid. It worked, but I had a miscarriage...and that was tough; but I am trying again. Anyway, basically Clomid makes you ovulate or produce eggs, which otherwise may not happen as frequently. It also helps the Doc. tell you your best conception dates (usually day 13-18 of your cycle). But don't worry if nothing happens initially...it takes time. Good Luck and stay positive. By the way ask your Doc. about Glucophage treatment.
