Re: Is anyone on Desogen and how is it working? From: Anna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 1 Jul 2003 11:38:08 -0500 (CDT)
Jennifer, I was on Desogen for a year, and had some adverse reactions (I had switched from Loestrin, which would make me very depressed on the third Thursday ONLY of each pill pack. The switch to Desogen was immediately helpful at the beginning.). At first, I just had migranes towards the end of the third week and into the beginning of the placebo week. Then I started feeling slightly blue, which I attributed to a negative work environment. However, it got to the point of extreme depression, and was particularly bad about 2 hours after I would take each pill. I had been through a depression about 6 years ago, but never anything like this... this most recent experience had very little to actually trigger it, and I found my coping skills to be lacking, which was very unlike me. I sought counseling, and my husband and friends were extremely supportive and helpful, but nothing was alleviating the pain of depression, and there was no measurable cause that I could find (and not for lack of thorough self-investigation). I went off of Desogen at the end of April. Each day I felt more relief, even in just a week... in less than a month I was back to normal, and I am a completely different person... that it, I am myself again (happy, joyful, creative, excited about the present and future)! I have since found out that many of my girlfriends have had similar experiences on the Pill, and have found the depression to cease immediately after discontinuing use or switching to a different distribution of hormones. The only thing I miss about Desogen is nearly perfect skin, which is a small price for one's mental health.
-- I wish the best for you, Anna
