the next stepFrom: Beth (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 14 Jun 2003 21:33:18 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Everyone My name is Beth and I posted several weeks ago for the first time when I was first diagnosed by my OB/GYN w/PCOS. I have an appt with an endocrinologist the first week in July and I guess I am askng for some advice. Although my OB/GYn diagnosed me he never followed up with me once my labs came back. I called and was basically told thay my serotonin, thyroid and estrogens were all normal as well as my pap smear. When I self referred myself to the endpocrinologist they asked me to have my doctot that diagnosed me fax my labs. Now I am concerned that I did not have enought testing done in his office that day, he kept saying the dx was academic. I have mayny symptoms, my periods stopped about 4 months ago, slow weight gain in the past 3 yrs since the birth of my 2nd child, some facial and extra body hair also. I have joined a gym and go 3-4 times per week, I do mostly cardio and I am starting to add some weights in also. I work in the pharmaceutical research industry and I have had strong recommendations from co-workers to get on Metformin, I tried tha atkins diet for about 3 weeks and lost a few lbs but I could not stick with it, it was too extreme for me. I guess my question is, can someone please give me some ideas of what to expect when I see the endocrinologist. I have a call into my ob/gyn b/c I am wondering why he has not followed up with me and prescribed bcp's or at least let me know whether or not my dx was correct. It seems like since I told him I was not concerned about conceiving ( I already have 2 children)he has kind of let me fall through the cracks. Sorry this has been so long but I guess I am just wondering if someone out there can help me. Any suggestions would be great, I have read so many wonderful encouraging things that this community shares with one another, I am so glad this forum exists, I don't know where to start with this.
