The question you asked is a very good one! :) I think that it seems to be the most effective treatment available right now, but they may develop something else in the not-too-distant future that may prove to be even more effective.

I suppose that, at the present time, it can be viewed as a long-term form of treatment (particularly when combined with a healthy diet and exercise) until a more progressive medication (or, even better, a cure) is discovered.
