Re: Gastric Bypass and PCOSFrom: Wyvern (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 10 Jun 2003 16:13:33 -0500 (CDT)
Greetings all, If one wants to go gastric bypass surgery, that their choice. I don't advocate it because of the health risks and proof of long term failure (most people regain 30-60% of weight back). Also, unless one is overeating, gastric bypass will do nothing to help someone loose weight. Most women with pcos gain weight due to metabolic problems due to insulin resistance and hormonal inbalances not poor eating habits. Getting one's stomach reduced or banded (saline banding is less invasisve than gbs) is not going to change the metabolic source of the problem. I have never advocated weight loss pills, miracle cures, or surgeries. I advocate eating healthy and exercise, but I understand many feel this is not enough. I wish good luck to all those who endeavor to loose weight by the means they feel necessary. It is hard living with pcos, and we live as best we can. Be Well,
-- Wyvern
