Dr. Sam - Does this mean the metformin is working?

I've been on Met for about 6 weeks, the last 3 of those at the full dosage of 2000 mg per day. I'm trying to figure out if it's working, or if I'm just being too eager and impatient. I'll try to be brief as I explain...

As a teen, I had irregular periods, though I always figured that was because I struggled on and off with anorexia. My PCP prescribed birth control pills at age 20, and I was on them for 8 1/2 years, until the beginning of this year.

I stopped the pills Dec. 29, 2002 as we decided to start ttc. On March 1, I started light spotting. It only lasted until the next day. Then again, same thing March 21-22. The next week, the ob/gyn dx PCOS and prescribed the Met. Before starting Met in late April, I did a progesterone challenge. Took the progesterone for six days, bled a light-to-average amount the first day, then tapered off but it did last for four days. Ob/gyn said that was a normal response.

About a month after starting the met (only 1 week into full dosage), I got another period again. It was perhaps slightly lighter than the first day following the progesterone, but definitely much more than what I'd had in March. Again, it tapered off starting with the second day, but also lasted for four days total. And, this time was a bit more red in color rather than brown like March and April were.

I'm sorry to be so graphic, and so long-winded. Any thoughts anyone has are welcome.

Thanks, Becca
