There is a chance of blood clots when taking the pill for ANYONE, not just people with PCOS. But with PCOS and not having periods, there is also a greater chance of things such as ovarian and uterine cancers. We need to have our periods. So if you weigh the pros and cons of each, it should be kept in mind that alot of things are harmful, but we need to sometimes go on what our docs say. As far as diet, it has been proven that low carb diets over time have been harmful to people. There is no benefit of low carbs diet to PCOS ladies, or to the regular population. Your muscles need carbs for the main source of energy. When carbs get too low, you start losing water weight first. The second stage includes flushing of water and fluids from muscles, and as a LAST resort, fat is then burned. So people do lose weight fast on low carb diets (Atkins), but it is mostly water weight. I will find links for everyone to read about this. That is why so many people gain weight back once they go off these diets, because it was typically only water weight lost. Generally as well, when you go on a low carb diet at first you have a ton of energy, but after some time, people become easily fatigued, and sluggish...I will get some links out here to give to everyone. I was on the Atkins for 6 months back in college a few years back and lost almost 55 lbs, but gained half of it back in less than 5 months when I went back to eating regular. The key to proven weight loss is eating in moderation and exercising...Too much of anything in relation to calories can make you gain weight, NOT just carbs, but protein and fat as well... Grace
