FINALLY my endo prescribed metformin, I have had good results for the first six weeks, minimal side effects, mood swing decrease, and good increase in weight loss(using weight watchers and exercise, for 11 weeks pre-Met, I lost 6 lbs, in the 6 weeks of using met, I have lost 11 lbs). I am 45, did not test out as having insulin resistance, so Dr. was not quick to prescribe for me. I have read conflicting info about Metformin as long term drug, some sources say no, some say yes.
