Re: pcos and hairlossFrom: Wyvern (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 6 Jun 2003 02:16:46 -0500 (CDT)
I have wonderful results with a BCP called Yasmin. The hair growth has dwindled. I also did some research on natural supplements that can help with the problem in general. I will list my findings: Fish Oils/Omega Fatty Acids: They help the cell membranes become more permeable i.e. can absorb and use insulin easier. The better the insulin receptivity, the lower the testoserone levels and less male pattern hair development. Saw Palmetto: While this herb is given to men to regulate prostate health, it helps reduce testosterone levels in women with pcos. Rasberry leaf tea/rasberries: They contain chemicals which help regulate estrogen/progesterone levels in women. Black cohosh: This herb contains estrogen like chemicals and has been used to help regualte women going through menopause. Cinnamon: It helps regulate hormones and sensitizes the cell membranes. I have had good success with the fish oils and saw palmetto. I haven't had the oppurtunity to try the black cohosh or the cinnamon. As usual, I encourage anyone thinking of taking herbal supplements to visit their doctor first. Some herbs have bad reactions with prescription medications or acutally nullify the prescriptions. Good luck to all of you living with PCOS. Be Well,
-- Wyvern
