Re: Ortho-Tri-Cyclen LO - period started earlyFrom: Allison (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 2 Jun 2003 22:05:51 -0500 (CDT)
Hi Kristi, I've only been on Yasmin for one month, so I don't have too much experience with it. :) The progestin in Yasmin is derived from spironolactone (an anti-androgen), and it often helps in clearing up acne and minimizing the growth of extra hair. Each person responds differently to BCPs, though, so it's kind of a trial-and-error approach. Glucophage (or the generic, metformin) is an insulin-sensitizing medication that many women with PCOS take. Insulin resistance is thought to be an underlying cause of PCOS, and this medication often improves symptoms and regulates cycles when the correct dose is found. I'm not presently taking it, but my reproductive endocrinologist plans to start me on a small dose in the next few days. This is the most commonly prescribed medication for PCOS, I think. Anyway, I hope this has been helpful. I'm new to all of this, too, so I'm still learning!
